Case Studies
John McCain for President:
For political creative firms, few opportunities are more prestigious than serving our party's nominee for president. In 2008, the Stoneridge Group had the tremendous honor to produce direct mail and collateral materials for John McCain for President.
Stoneridge designed powerful mail that told McCain's compelling life story and also drew very strong contrasts with Barack Obama.
Designs printed and mailed by Stoneridge drew contrasts between McCain and Obama's positions on taxes, guns, veterans and our military, defense of Israel, and Obama's poor response to Midwest floods.
Stoneridge also designed and produced a major donor magazine for the McCain campaign as well as VIP tickets for the Republican National Convention.
On working with the campaign, Stoneridge Executive Vice-President Trip Radtke said, "The campaign staff did a remarkable job of managing a very complex and rapidly changing mail program. It was an honor to work with them. We're thankful to Rick Davis and the rest of the team for allowing us to be involved with the campaign. It was an experience we won't forget."

Lt. Governor Casey Cagle:
Stoneridge had a long-standing relationship with Cagle, so we set out to produce our very best work in order to help put him over the top. The team knew our opponent, nationally known Republican operative Ralph Reed, would have tremendous resources and a strong ground game. Therefore, it was imperative that everything we did for Cagle was always better than whatever Reed would come up with.
The Stoneridge Group designed a logo and campaign identity, collateral materials, multiple websites, and voter contact mail for the Cagle campaign.
Stoneridge created Caseycagle.com, ralphreedsgreatesthits.com, readaboutreed.com, and dontgambleonralph.com. And we designed and distributed other elements of Cagle's online campaign: Race News E-mail updates and Action Alerts. And we created "The Caution Flag" E-mails to notify the press and our supporters when Reed made a baseless accusation.
Stoneridge first produced a number of Cagle biographical mail pieces and then followed up those initial mailings with multiple issue pieces targeted to social conservatives. The final round of mailings included contrast pieces designed to remind voters of Reed's advocacy of casinos and his work with now-convicted felon Jack Abramoff.
The combination of an outstanding, tireless candidate, and the work of the entire Cagle team proved to be too much for Reed to overcome, as Cagle stormed to a tremendous election night victory—56%-44%.

Illinois Republican Party:
During the past few elections, Democrats had successfully portrayed Illinois Republicans as the party of old, rich, white men who were afraid to innovate.
The ILGOP understood independent voters viewed them this way. They knew they needed to act.
In need of a new look and feel—a new "brand"—the ILGOP reached out to the Stoneridge Group, one of the nation's most accomplished political creative firms.
In an effort to gain a thorough understanding of the party's needs and goals, the Stoneridge team spent a considerable amount of time speaking with party staffers and activists about their thoughts on the rebranding project.
Following numerous internal brainstorming sessions and lengthy creative meetings, Stoneridge ultimately selected the fresh, populist theme—"We Are Illinois."
The party was pleased with the theme and the design. Stoneridge carried the branding a step further and developed a new party website, WeAreIllinois.org, which would replace the more traditional ILGOP.org.
Stoneridge urged the party to expand its online presence and presented two additional website concepts: BloggingOnBlagoBlog.com and RailsplitterNews.com.
BloggingOnBlagoBlog.com would be used to detail the drip, drip, drip details of corruption leaking from the Governor's mansion. And RailsplitterNews.com would serve as a news aggregator for all things Illinois-related.
The party approved these designs and would later sign off on another Stoneridge production: FriendsofBlago.com. FriendsofBlago would be used to apply pressure on Governor Blagojevich and his political allies. The site would be featured on ABC News and RedState.com as well as in the pages of The Washington Post and The Chicago Tribune.
Impressed with their talents and ideas, the party invited Stoneridge to redesign its print and collateral materials.
The ILGOP understands how important it is these days to try new things and remain ahead of the curve. That realization has helped them redefine the "Brand of Lincoln."

Congressman Lynn Westmoreland:
Congressman Lynn Westmoreland was a rising star in Georgia politics, serving as Republican House Minority Leader. To those who knew him best, it was clearly only a matter of time until he was called to higher office.
When he decided to run for U.S. Congress, Westmoreland teamed up with the Stoneridge Group and political strategist Chip Lake.
Westmoreland's campaign team decided their theme should emphasize Westmoreland's brand of independence and record of leadership, so they came up with "The Courage to Lead." By directing attention to Westmoreland's history of leadership, their theme allowed the campaign to contrast Westmoreland's record with his primary opponent, Dylan Glenn's. While national Republican leaders were working to shore up Glenn's candidacy on cable news and in print media, Westmoreland solidified his base in his two strongest counties and raised his positives in the areas of the district in which he was less well known.
By wedding his existing positive mail campaign to a blistering attack mail campaign (which called Glenn out for his lack of knowledge of the district and his seeming opportunism), Westmoreland was able to comfortably secure the nomination on primary election night, earning a widerthan- expected margin of victory.
Since his election to Congress, Westmoreland has become one of the House's most vocal critics of wasteful earmark spending. Westmoreland also led the fight against the fraud and abuse of funding intended to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.
In 2008, National Journal declared Congressman Westmoreland had one of the four most conservative voting records in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Congressman Tom Price:
Consultant Chip Lake and the Stoneridge Group drafted a dynamic print and web campaign for Tom Price's first congressional campaign, which involved the creation of a unique online campaign designed to work in tandem with Price's direct mail plan.
The Price team decided upon the theme, "Voice for Freedom," which articulated Price's vision for limited government, lower taxes, and a strong military. Voice for Freedom allowed Price to share his views on illegal immigration, medical malpractice reform, and national security early in the campaign.
Price won the primary, but he did not cross the 50% threshold, which meant that he would face second place finisher Robert LaMutt in a primary runoff three weeks later.
On election night, Price shocked the establishment media and proved the pundits wrong by handily defeating LaMutt.
Congressman Price's well-deserved reputation as a conservative reformer and problem solver has helped him ascend the ranks of Republican leadership. He was recently elected by his peers to serve as Chairman of the House Republican Study Committee, the conservative caucus within the House Republican Conference.
Current Campaigns
Nathan Deal, Governor-Elect (Georgia):
Former U.S. Army Captain, Judge, Prosecutor, and current Congressman from Georgia's 9th District, Nathan Deal defeated former governor, Roy Barnes, to become Georgia's next governor. Nathan has been a Stoneridge client since 2002.
Rand Paul, U.S. Senator-Elect (Kentucky):
A first time candidate and Tea Party favorite, Dr. Rand Paul handily defeated his Democrat opponent, Jack Conway, to win election to the United States Senate.
Marco Rubio, U.S. Senator-Elect (Florida):
Easily winning a race that party insiders had originally tried to force him from, Marco Rubio rode a wave of enthusiasm, conservative uprising, and Tea Party support to become Florida's next United States Senator-Elect.
Sam Olens, Attorney General-Elect (Georgia):
Conservative Sam Olens, former Chairman of the Cobb County Commission, became the first Jewish candidate to win a statewide partisan race in Georgia's history. Olens will continue Georgia's role one of 20 other states suing the federal government over Obamacare mandates.
David Rivera, U.S. Representative-Elect (Florida):
In a hotly-contested race, former Florida State Representative David Rivera won election to the United States House of Representatives by defeating his Democrat opponent by a substantial margin.
Austin Scott, U.S. Representative-Elect (Georgia):
Over the years, many Republican challengers had come close, but none had been able to unseat incumbent Democrat congressman, Jim Marshall. Until this year. By working hard and emphasizing spending cuts, integrity, and plans to undo Obama's big government agenda, former State Representative Austin Scott defeated Jim Marshall, winning election to the House of Representatives.
Brian Kemp, Secretary of State (Georgia):
Brian Kemp, a Stoneridge client since 2002, has previously served as a Georgia State Senator. The Athens-area small businessman recently won re-election to a full four-year term.
Tim Moffitt, State Representative-Elect (North Carolina):
Tim Moffitt recently won election to the North Carolina House of Representatives with a double-digit win over the incumbent Democrat. A successful business owner, Tim will work to cut spending, reduce the size of government, and promote private sector job creation.
